My name is Taryn Heath (she/her). I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been a practicing therapist for over five years, primarily working with teens and young adults. I have experience treating disorders stemming from anxiety, depression, and trauma, as well as helping clients navigate relationship conflict, gender and sexuality exploration, and major life changes. My passion is helping clients empower themselves through the dismantling of negative internalized beliefs, allowing them to live a fulfilling life that aligns with their values.

About me

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Anthropology, and Psychology from Wells College, and my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University at Albany. My background includes experience in non-profit community resource navigation, school social work, and facilitating support groups for LGBTQ+ youth. I have also completed trainings in trauma, dissociation, kink practices, and polyamory/consensual non-monogamy.

EDUCATION and training

I believe in the inherent worth and value of all people, and approach my work from an intersectional abolitionist lens. It is critical for clients to understand how larger societal systems, such as racism, sexism, capitalism, ableism, fatphobia, homophobia, and transphobia, can negatively impact their individual mental health. Only armed with this knowledge can we truly envision a brighter and more liberated future for ourselves and our communities.

A portion of profits from New Leaf Psychotherapy are donated to Capital Region-based mutual aid funds to support the foundational pieces of good mental health: housing, food security, financial stability, and access to resources.

professional values

When not working, I enjoy thrifting, going to concerts, playing tennis, and hanging out with my cats (and plants).
